The background
Tottenham Hotspur Football Club in North London is a proud member of the UN Race to Zero, committing to halve its carbon emissions by 2030 and become net zero carbon by 2040.
Darren Baldwin, head of grounds at the club, which has topped the Premier League sustainability table produced by the UN-backed Sport Positive and published by BBC Sport for three years running, was looking for a brand that could aid his grounds team of 45 in continuing its journey to carbon neutrality.

The brief
The club needed an alternative form of transport for staff and VIPs around the Training Centre with a reduced impact on the environment. Having already invested in electric options for tending to the pitches, what they needed next was an electric solution that encompassed golf buggies, people carriers, utility vehicles and ambulances.
…
Darren and the management team wanted a brand that could rival the highly productive ‘mules’ in the utility vehicles category that are petrol and diesel without sacrificing on performance, and able to take on the 80-acre site and a wide range of jobs. They had concerns about battery power and the range it could provide, as they needed a reliable as well as efficient transport solution.
We’ve all been blown away by the quality of these vehicles, they are far in
advance of the competition. The little things have been accounted for, like the
windshields, for example, they aren’t plastic, and they have windscreen wipers.
That’s a fantastic feature to come as standard.
The results
Tottenham Hotspurs acquired three all-electric ambulances (two Capella CP-4 and an AP48-4) to assist the medical teams, a Sirius 2+2 four-seater people carrier to help transport staff and host VIPs tours, as well as 10 Capella Work Machines utility vehicles to load various materials and aid in housekeeping and maintenance duties – a total of 14 all-electric vehicles from STAR EV, the brand distributed by Reesink e-Vehicles in the UK.
The grounds team now fulfils its many day-to-day tasks knowing the work is done quickly and efficiently, while also helping the club reach its sustainability goals by using only all-electric power. They provide a quiet and smooth ride, are easy, quick and comfortable to use and produce no fumes. And with a range of up to 75 miles, a day’s work is never interrupted.
The Capella Work Machines can lug mannequins, balls and airbed walls for training around the campus, fulfil housekeeping duties for the 46-bedroom lodge and support the grounds and gardens maintenance team, among many other responsibilities. They’re user-friendly, quick and comfortable to use.
The ambulances support the medical staff with ensuring the welfare of the players in both the men’s and women’s teams. They have a logical design and innovative features that combined make the job of the medical team easier – everything they need is logically stored and conveniently to hand so they can be efficient under pressure.
The Sirius 2+2 provides the perfect ride for Darren to move around the extensive area as well as for hosting VIP tours: the buggy is quiet, smooth and has no emissions for a comfortable and secure ride. It also has a very attractive sporty look and has been branded with the club’s insignia to really look the part. Darren opted for the canopy design, which keeps passengers cool and allows for air flow, while also providing shade from the sun and shelter from the rain.
The team has found charging is both easy and reliable: there is no need for any expensive infrastructure as they can be used with any regular socket and topped up when needed, and there are clear controls to show what charge is left so that the buggies never run out of power and are ready to be used at a moment’s notice.
And the conclusion
Tottenham Hotspurs Football Club is happy with its purchase of 14 all-electric vehicles from STAR EV and Reesink e-Vehicles, which are not only helping the club in its journey to carbon neutrality but also providing a safe and efficient transport option for all their daily needs.
