Royal Dornoch Golf Club
7 x Capella 2 Pro
The background
Royal Dornoch Golf Club is one of the finest Championship courses in Scotland.
The course is essentially a walking course but has a fleet of buggies for those with medical conditions to use.
The existing fleet was eight years old and powered by lead acid batteries which had already been through one battery replacement. It was time for a new fleet.

The brief
General manager, Neil Hampton, tasked his machinery dealer, Reesink Scotland, with whom he has worked for years, to find a quality lithium-ion battery-powered golf buggy that was reliable, had a light footprint and a focus on price and support.
We got our mechanic to check over all the vehicles
we demoed, and STAR EV was collectively chosen
as the best all-round
The results
Mike Murray, Northern Sales for Reesink Scotland, recommended STAR EV’s Capella 2 Pro golf buggies. These machines are built for safety with golfers in mind.
The 80Ah lithium-ion battery brings a 20 percent jump in terms of reliability and efficiency compared to a lead acid battery (95 percent compared to 75 percent).
They charge faster, are more durable and able to withstand harsher environments, allow quick and partial charging without getting damaged, lose power much more slowly during discharge, waste less energy and require no maintenance, which saves on additional costs and time.
They are light on their feet, a fact confirmed by Neil through watching wear patterns on the grassed pathways.
Our ‘larger than most’ lithium batteries, combined
with a reliable vehicle, will hopefully go a long way to
helping if ever they are called into action.
And the conclusion
The Capella 2 Pro have recently been fitted with defibrillators. Royal Dornoch Golf Club is thought to be the first golf club in the world to fit defibrillators to all its buggies. The club already had defibrillators in the clubhouse and halfway house, but this concept goes one step further to ensure they can be accessed while out on the course and provide treatment more quickly. And the fact that the STAR buggies are trusted to support this potentially life-saving device is a testament to the faith the club puts in them.
